Matthew 1:24 When Joseph awoke from sleep he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him …
Do you trust God to do the impossible? Do you trust him enough to obey Him when He tells you to believe in the impossible? We all know the answer should be “yes”. We have read the Biblical accounts of miracles and we believe they are true. This is all well and good, until God calls us to believe and act on that belief.
Joseph was a man with a dilemma. His betrothed was pregnant and he was certain he was not the father. He was undoubtedly hurt and probably angry. Yet he was merciful and honorable enough to decide to end the relationship quietly, sparing Mary undue shame and consequences. Then he had a dream.
In the dream God explains the situation and tells joseph to go ahead and take Mary to be his wife. We have heard this story so many times that it becomes commonplace to us. But what would it take for you to obey such a dream? What would convince you that a pregnant woman was still a chaste virgin?
Having read this story countless times makes it so familiar that it seems obvious to us. Of course Mary was pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Joseph however, had to trust by faith. Not only did he have to believe, but he had to act. And act he did, immediately.
Every Christian has these moments. When God calls them to leave their comfort zone and act. At times God calls us to believe the impossible and act upon it. Perhaps it is to forgive someone and restore a relationship even though it is “impossible” that this person will ever change. Or maybe God directs you conquer a sin problem that is “impossible” for you to overcome.
Throughout the Bible God calls people to believe the impossible and act upon it so that He gets the glory when the impossible is proven possible.
It was impossible for a virgin to give birth. It was impossible to a shepherd boy to become king. It was impossible for a man with a speech impediment to become God’s messenger to Pharaoh. Yet these people trusted God and accomplished the impossible.
Do you know God’s voice? Do you trust Him enough to take a risk? Consider now what it would take for you to trust God enough that you will believe the impossible. At some point, God will call you to do so. Will you be ready?
Heavenly Father, You are all-powerful. You can do the impossible. You can also do the impossible in me and through me. Please strengthen my faith so that I will be ready when You call me to trust in the impossible.
