Matthew 8:5-13 ESV When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[d] have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heavenwhile the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
Do you trust God? Most every Christian would say they do, but do they live it out? Do we believe what God says and act upon it before we see it?
The centurion believed that Jesus would heal his servant and acted upon that belief before seeing any actual results. What would our lives be like if we lived like this? For one thing, worry and anxiety would be things of the past. God has promised in the Bible to provide for our needs (Luke 12:22-31) so we do not need to worry about finances or possessions.
If we trusted God we would be free from fear. The Bible tells us that God is sovereign which means He is in control of all things. Nothing can happen to us that He does not allow. Therefore, nothing and no one should intimidate or overwhelm us (1 Peter 3:13).
God has promised eternal life to those who believe and obey Him (John 11:25-26). If we truly trusted Him we would live our life with eternity in mind. Our focus would be on God and His kingdom, not our momentary earthly afflictions.
If we truly trusted God we would have perfect peace and joy at all times and in all circumstances. That would be a wonderful way to live.
Lord God, I believe Your promises. Give me a heart that trusts you with a childlike faith.
