Safe in God’s Hands

The coronavirus is certainly having an impact in America.  More correct to say, fear of the coronavirus is having an impact on America.   Panic buying has emptied stores of certain products.  One of those products is toilet paper.  At first glance it makes no sense.  There are valid reasons for people to stock up on hand-sanitizer, soap, Clorox wipes, and similar items.  Why toilet paper.  Diarrhea is not a common symptom of the coronavirus.  Yet I have seen videos of people fist-fighting in stores over the last package of TP.

Talking heads have explained this phenomenon as an attempt to gain control in a situation that makes people feel out of control.   I don’t know if that is true or not, but it does remind me of one of the wonderful blessings of being a Christian.  We never have to worry about being out of control because we are always in the hands of The One who is in control.

Before I became a Christian I was a very fearful person.  I worried a lot and was terrified of dying.  After fully surrendering my life to God in 1992, I learned what real peace was.  Over time I learned to trust in Him and grew in confidence that He was completely in control.  That released me from worry since I realized nothing could happen without God allowing it.  Also, I became free from fear of death since it was only a gateway to heaven.  Overcoming worry and fear is what true peace really is.

During this period of national uncertainty, Christians have an opportunity to shine brightly.  We can be a calming influence on those around us.  If the world sees the freedom from fear that comes from belonging to Christ, then some may realize they are better off in his arms.

Have courage brothers and sisters.  Be anxious for nothing.  Trust in God and focus your heart and minds on Him.  He is our rock and our fortress.

LORD, You are completely sovereign.  You are fully in control. Let me live confidently in this reality.
